Fry a $/£5(ish with VAT) board and you can just get another.
There are some things I won’t try with my current Pi’s as frying a £20-£30 board gets expensive if you do it a dozen times. Packing the 40-pin GPIO onto the board is a genius decision as it enables people to learn and play with both s/w and h/w at a higher risk : reward ratio.

I remember the interview with Ebon in which he mentioned the boss of Google challenging the Foundation to get as close to free as possible. THANK YOU, RASPBERRY PI FOUNDATION, MAGPI, AND PARTNERS!!! I’M GOING TO MAKE A CASE FOR THESE BEING SO CHEAP, THEY’RE CONSUMABLES, NOT IT-TRACKABLE COMPUTERS! YOU SHOULD, TOO! GIVE THEM TO YOUR DESERVING STUDENTS! GIVE THEM TO YOUR DESERVING KIDS!! I’M GOING TO ORDER A HUNDRED OF THESE JUST SO THAT OUR JAMMERS CAN HAVE SOME AT A SPECIAL JAM!ĬAN’T WAIT TO SEE THESE ON BALLOONS AND ROCKETS GALORE – Not sure how the camera modules will be integrated as there is no CSI nor DSI ports, but the Adafruit Kippah provides a way to get 1080p60 native to an LCD panel via almost all of the GPIO pins. WHEEEEE!!! LET THE HACKING BEGIN!!! FINALLY, A WAY TO MAKE A REAL PI TABLET AND ULTRA-THIN LAP-PI WITHOUT NASTY CE/FCC EMI CERTIFICATION!!!ĭID HE SAY FIVE DOLLARS? AS IN CINCO SAMOLIANS? AS IN A PENTABUCK? Unless you can produce a LOT more of these, most people will never be able to get one without paying more than $5, and at that point I would just buy a different embedded computer system, a different Raspberri pi or one of the TI boards, that $5 is the key feature of the zero pi but it is a theoretical-only feature. I am sorry but you guys did not meet your objective in this project. I give raspberry pi an A for effort, but the Pi Zero has FAILED to deliver a cheap, small embedded computer system to the world. Ultimately I think the Pi Zero is a failure, there is a lot of hype about it but unless you live in a few very specific places in the US, you are never going to get it for $5.00. The pi hut and never have it in stock, unless you buy a kit (which is more than $5.00). If you buy it from Adafruit the shipping is $10, so now your Pi Zero is $15.00 three times the price it is supposed to be. The Raspberri Pi Zero is only $5.00 if you buy it at the Micro Center store, but you have to be near a store to do it as they don’t sell it online. The issue is jam-packed with everything you need to know about Zero, including a heap of project ideas, and an interview with Mike Stimson, who designed the board.
